Soccer odds Soccer odds represent how likely a team can win the match. Soccer is watched by 3.57 billion people across the world and everyone wants has his or her favourite team to win the match. In soccer betting, if you predict the winner correctly, you win money. On the contrary, if your prediction goes wrong, you lose money. If you bet on the team with high chance to win, you win less money if the team ends up as a winner as this is the most favourable prediction.

However, you can end up winning more money if you bet on the team with less chance to win and the team wins against the odds. Soccer odds help you to know the amount you can win when your prediction goes right. There are different kinds of soccer odds – decimal odds, fractional odds and American odds.

Decimal odds

So, for a favorite, the odds will begin with a minus (-) sign. This is the amount you need to bet in order to win $100. On the other hand, the underdog’s odds will begin with a plus (+) sign. This is the amount you will receive if you were to bet $100. It would be preposterous and absurd to think about placing bets without having a good grip on the main types of betting odds and the ability to read and interpret the various associated formats.

It is the easiest one to understand and as the name suggests, the odds are mentioned against each team in decimal format. If a team has odds of 2.5, you win 2.5 times your bet amount if the team goes ahead and wins the match. If the team loses the match, you lose your bet amount. For example, if you bet $10 on the team with 2.5 odds, you win $25 and earn a profit of $15 if the team wins. If the team loses, you lose out $10.

For a team with 4.5 odds, you win $45 for a $10 bet and you can make a $35 profit if the team that you place your bet on wins. The higher the odds, the more the profit you can make if your prediction goes right. The most favourable team (high chances of winning) has lower odds than the underdog team (less chances of winning). Hence, you earn more profit if you place your bet on the underdog team and if it wins it.

It is a more traditional approach and it is getting quickly replaced by decimal odds system. A 2/1 odds against a team indicates a winning of $20 against a bet of $10. Similarly, a 100/1 odds against team fetches $1000 for a bet of $10. In the above example, favourable team is going to have 2/1 odds and the underdog team is going to have 100/1 odds. It is possible to convert fractional odds to decimal odds.

American odds

They have their roots in America and they are also called moneyline or US odds. These are represented as positive or negative numbers against each team. Favourable teams are assigned negative numbers and underdog teams are assigned positive numbers. Minus sign indicates that you need to bet more than $100 to win $100. Plus sign indicates that you need to bet less than $100 to win $100.

Let’s take an example of team A odds at -250 and team B odds at +200. Team A, because of minus sign, is the favourable team and you need to bet $250 to win $100. On the other hand, team B is the underdog team because of plus sign and you need to bet $100 to win $200. Again, the same rule of winning more in case of a win for underdog applies. Happy betting!!!
